Competition for jobs out there is tough, and we’re all guilty of telling a few fibs on our CV.

We’ve all embellished the truth just a little, so we can make ourselves seem more impressive and skilled than we actually are.

Have you ever stated that you’re a whiz at Excel, or you speak foreign languages, and enjoy team work, when quite clearly none of these things actually apply to you?

Well, good luck when you actually have to demonstrate these things to your boss.

1. EXCELLENT KNOWLEDGE OF MICROSOFT EXCEL

We all lie about this. Sure you’ve made a few pie charts and simple graphs here and there, so you are confident in stating that you have an excellent knowledge of Excel.

Best hope that your manager never asks you to create a dynamic range or whip up a pivot table. Excessive sweating will follow these requests.

2. I WORK WELL UNDER PRESSURE

One of the most common lies out there. You’re the type of person that has a panic if the waiter comes over too quickly to take your order and you have to make a snap decision quickly.

You do not handle stress well at all, which means that when things get a bit hairy you’ll be taking refuge under your desk swigging from an emergency hip flask.
