extortion

A reader sent this in revealing to us how much the secondary school she graduated in charges before its ex-students collect their O’level certificate used to gain admission into higher institutions.

According to her, the school has been collecting this much from its alumni for years – she says its extortion.

Below is how she shared it:

Up here I got my SSCE Certificate, most of us who are seeking admission into higher institutions are been requested to present this certificates for verification of result.. I registered and sat for this exam and went to pick it up yesterday been 22 /7 /2016. Could you people imagine that this particular school PAULIVEN COLLEGE, LOCATED AT 8,EZIAMA STREET, TEDI TOWN OPP. OJO BARRACKS, LAGOS. is charging 30,000 from each person before they would release your Cert for you, and after much digging I found out they have been collecting this whole amount for years til date and even as of that yesterday the principal was boldly saying that soon it will be 40,000.. This is the first school I have heard that is taking such big amount, the highest amount other schools will take from you is just 5k, some schools won’t even take anything accept 500 or 1k for printing of the result.. Now my question is why do someone have to pay this much for an exam you registered and sat for? Paying 30k is just as if am buying this certificate whereas that’s not the case.. Am not saying this just because of me, it was easy for me because am working and I can afford it but how about some parents who can’t? Cos my own parents would never give out such money instead they would ask you to go to another school and re write the exam.. They asked me to pay 28k and extra 500 for the printing after I told them they could be sued because of this.. So please let’s share this message until it gets to the WAEC Board, the ministry of education or whoever that would help call this school to order, they need to be cautioned.. They are stealing people’s hard earned money and it’s not fair. I still have younger ones who has to pass through this stage and I know some of us do as well, if this issue is not tackled urgently then am sure other schools will be joining them soon in committing this evil crime.. This is extortion
