After watching the Nation’s Cup qualifier between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Bafana Bafana of South Africa, a retired soldier of the Nigerian Army slumped and died on Saturday, 10th June.
The deceased identified as Joseph Oloruntoju, reportedly left his residence for the Owena Army Barracks in Akure to watch the match with friends.
He allegedly slumped after the South African team scored their second goal, and was rushed to a private hospital where he was confirmed dead.
The incident was confirmed by the Public Relations Officer of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigeria Army, Akure, Captain Ojo Adelegan.
He revealed that the deceased blood pressure was found to be too high.
He said:
“He is a retired sergeant. He has a shop at our mammy market (in the barracks). It was discovered that his blood pressure was overshot. It was while our doctors were saving his life that he gave up the ghost,”
