An operative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) was shot dead by four gunmen as he returned home from work on Monday night in Benin, Edo State.
According to Premium Times, the NSCDC operative, identified as Rawlings Osagie, was shot in the stomach at his residence.
The deceased’s younger brother, Aghatise Osagie, said an assistant superintendent, died at a hospital where he was rushed to for treatment.
The gunmen reportedly laid siege on the deceased and shot him as he tried to open the gate to his house at the Ugbor area of the town.
In a similar incident, three people including an auto mechanic were shot dead at Omokharo Street, Off Siluko Road in Benin on Monday.
Two of the victims were said to have brought their vehicle to the mechanic for repairs when they were killed. The police said the killings were cult related.
On July 8, gunmen similarly, killed a staff reporter with the Nigerian Television Authority, Lawrence Okojie, in Benin.
Mr. Okojie was also said to be on his way home from work when he was shot dead around Ogunola area, near Siloko Road in Benin.
The spokesman of the Police Command in Benin, Moses Nkombe, however said he was yet to be briefed on the killing of the NSCDC officer.
