President Muhammadu Buhari, who is currently on a two-day official visit to Kano State, has expressed surprise at the large number of people who trooped out on the streets to welcome him to the state.
The president, who got his highest number of votes during the 2015 presidential elections from Kano, said if judging by the “sea of people” that came out yesterday to welcome him, he would no doubt coast to victory again if elections are held.
President Buhari hasn’t made a definite statement yet on his political future but in the last two weeks, he has made statements that point to the fact that he may seek a second term in office.
Speaking Wednesday afternoon at the Palace of the Emir of Kano just before he visited the Kurmawa Central Prison in the state where he freed 500 prisoners, the president said: “I am overwhelmed by the sea of people I see and by what I see today, if elections are contested I will no doubt win it”.
