A five-story structure under construction in Ngbabor, near Ebonyi State University’s Presco campus in Abakaliki, has collapsed.
The construction workers reportedly raced out of the building seconds before it collapsed on Tuesday, June 7 at around 2 p.m.
According to a local, the workers at the construction site raced out of it as soon as the building began to vibrate before it eventually collapsed.
Chris Anyanwu, the State Police Command’s spokesperson, verified the event during a press conference on Wednesday, June 8, saying “no casualty was recorded.”
Meanwhile, experts from the government have visited the collapsed structure to determine the cause of the tragedy. There was also a team of police officers and Ebubeagu operatives on the scene.
Government officials cautioned residents in the area not to approach the unfinished construction any closer for their own safety.

This comes barely a months after a three-story building in Ebute Meta, Lagos, collapsed.
The building located on Ibadan Street, Ebute Metta, collapsed around 9pm on Sunday, May 1, trapping many tenants. According to reports, the building was dilapidated and distressed before it eventually gave way.
Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Director General of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, said the building had been sealed for demolition due to it’s dilapidated state but the occupants refused to move.
