Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have arrested three suspects for gangraping a 13-year-old girl in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of the state.
The suspects identified as Sunday, Emelie, Chiedu, and another suspect who is currently at large, are all co-tenants of the victim’s father.
They were picked up after the victim lodged a complaint to the National Agency For Prohibition of Trafficking in Person (NAPTIP).
The victim, a native of Ohaozara in Ebonyi State, who was in tears while narrating her ordeal, said she was defiled by four men but the fourth suspect escaped when security operatives stormed their neighbourhood.
She said they took her to Nkisi river following a fight with her father and took turns to rape her. According to her, she was slapped by the boys before they dragged her to the river where they had carnal knowledge of her.
During interrogation, two of the suspects confessed to the crime and pleaded for forgiveness while the third suspect claimed he didn’t partake in the act and was only present when it occurred. However, the victim insisted that he was the second person who raped her.
The suspects also confessed that they raped the minor because of the altercation they had with her father.
