The police in the Federal Capital Territory have detained a 16-year-old boy identified as Emmanuel John after being accused of killing his father, Monday John, by beating him.
According to police sources, on May 2 at around 10 p.m., Monday and his wife, Mercy John, got into a disagreement at their house and Emmanuel struck his father with a pestle.
It was said that the couple had a heated dispute that became physical and Emmanuel attacked his father while siding with his mother.
He grabbed up the pestle and used it on his father during their argument. After collapsing, the father was taken to the hospital and later pronounced dead.
According to a police source, on May 3, one Yusuf Ayuba submitted a case of culpable homicide to the Karshi Police Station.
He claimed that after the completion of the police inquiry, Emmanuel would be taken into custody by the police and charged in a juvenile court.
The FCT Commissioner of Police, Haruna Garba, spoke on the event during a news conference on Friday. He claimed the suspect smacked his father’s head hard.
Garba said,
“It all happened when the suspect’s mother and father engaged each other in a physical fight.
The suspect took sides with his mother and used a pestle to hit hard on the father’s head which eventually led to his death.
The suspect will be arraigned in a juvenile court at the conclusion of investigation.”
