A Nigerian man identified as Oluwafemi Damilola has been charged with stealing 45,000 naira from four runs girls and has appeared in court in Ondo state.
According to the victims who related the incident, Oluwafemi utilised their services and compensated them with phony credit alerts.
Reports state that Oluwafemi was later detained by the police and charged on two counts bordering on fraud.
According to police prosecutor Akano Moremi, the defendant committed the crime in the state’s Sabo district in October 2022.
The charge read, “That you, Oluwafemi Damilola, sometime in October 2022, at Sabo Road, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by fraudulently having carnal knowledge of the victims.
That you, Oluwafemi Damilola, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned magisterial district, did indecently assault the female victims by fraudulently and unlawfully having carnal knowledge of them with the pretence of sending them the sum of N45,000 which you failed to do so but willingly send them a fake alert with the aim of defrauding them sexually and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Sections 249 and 360 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Volume 1 Law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.”
However, the defendant’s attorney, S. A. Iluyemi, said that negotiations for a settlement had already started between the parties.
He asked that the defendant be let go and pledged that the defendant will pay the complainants back before the next adjournment date.
The money must be paid to the complainants by the next adjournment date, according to Chief Magistrate Charity Adeyanju’s decision, who allowed the motion.
