Nigerian songstress Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, better known as Ayra Starr, has expressed her displeasure with the Headies Award organizers for their failure to announce the award category she won onstage.
The 21-year-old singer, renowned for hits like ‘Rush’ and ‘Sability,’ had been nominated alongside other A-list singers such as Tems, Simi, and Tiwa Savage in the Best Female Artiste category, and she emerged as the winner.
However, during the awards ceremony held in Atlanta, Georgia, on Sunday, September 3, the Best Female Artiste category was omitted from the onstage announcements, and Ayra Starr was not presented with her award at the event.
Infuriated by this oversight, Ayra took to Twitter to criticize the organizers for their failure to acknowledge her and her fellow female artistes who invest significant effort into their craft.
She also expressed her lack of appreciation for winning the award due to their lackadaisical attitude towards her.
Ayra tweeted on Monday afternoon,
“I will never be grateful for winning a category that wasn’t even deemed fit to be announced on stage ! Best female artist na beans ? We work hard, every single one of us ! I’ve seen Tiwa record 4 hit songs in the same night , Tems breaths and lives for music , we didn’t deserve such nonchalance! Nigeria , you didn’t raise me to settle for less”
