Two students of the Kwara State College of Education in Ilorin, Sulyman Tawakaltu and Mohammed AbdulSalam, are set to appear before a disciplinary panel.
The students, said to have studied Agriculture, are currently being investigated for their alleged immoral conduct during their sign-out ceremony.
This comes after a picture of AbdulSalam inappropriately grabbing Tawakaltu’s breasts during the sign-out ceremony intended to mark the end of their final exams at the college went viral.
In response to this incident, an internal memo from the college cited the display of immoral behavior by the two students as the basis for its decision.
The college has tasked the Students’ Disciplinary Committee (SDC) with addressing the matter and ensuring that appropriate action is taken as a deterrent to others.
Hajia Habitat Zubair, the Public Relations Officer of the college, confirmed this development to Daily Trust on Sunday, September 10, 2023.
“The school has commenced investigation into the matter but has not made any formal pronouncement on it.”
The alleged victim – whose identity was not disclosed – accused Dr. Kadiri, an Associate Professor of Botany, of sexually defiling her during her visit to his office to address issues related to her result.
According to the victim who reported him to an NGO called the Inclusive Social Welfare and Empowerment Foundation, the incident occurred on August 16, 2023.
The NGO subsequently reported the case to the Gender Unit of the state Police Command, prompting action from the Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa. A warrant of arrest for Dr. Kadiri was then issued by the state High Court through the OC Gender.
