A social media post has sparked widespread concern and outrage after the news that a Uganda university student reportedly passed away in her residence due to hunger.

The allegation was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user, @Martin Ssempa who shared a photo of the university student who died from starvation in her dormitory, citing financial constraints as the cause.

According to the post, approximately 95% of Makerere University students in Uganda often go without meals due to financial difficulties, leading to widespread hunger, malnutrition, and related health issues such as abdominal ulcers.

The user’s statement has generated widespread concern with many sharing similar experiences and expressing outrage.

@RiseUpAcholi: “Death of these children needs to be investigated. Hunger cannot kill a university student with a parent or guardian. Even those on government scholarship have got homes where they come from. We must understand what’s killing these children without blaming hunger.”

@mugabekash: “They have food, but they’re too lazy to cook. We parents send them food, but they can’t cook for themselves. They want to order from KFC every day; that’s their problem.”

@KasimagwaI980: “Hunger is happening at campus in uganda most especially government sponsored students. This government doesn’t take it as an emergency because they feel that these students support opposition.”
