Nollywood actress and politician, Tonto Dikeh, has withdrawn from the governorship race in Rivers state after her party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), collapsed its structure for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The party’s decision was disclosed by it’s Governorship Candidate, Tonte Ibraye, at a media briefing which was also attended by the APC Candidate, Tonye Cole, on Thursday.
He said they exited the race to form a stronger alliance with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to produce the next governor of the state.
Tonte said Cole was chosen as the “unifier of the opposite parties” due to his track records as a successful business mogul and detribalized politician.
Taking to her Instagram page, Tonto Dikeh, who was the Deputy Governorship Candidate of the party, announced the decision and appealed to her supporters to vote for Tonye Cole in this Saturday’s governorship election.
Sharing photos from the press briefing, she wrote,
“STRONGER TOGETHER FOR A UNITED RIVERS STATE..
Having carefully listened to the advise of elders and political leaders of Rivers State on the need for the opposition to look inwards and present a unified, competent and generally acceptable candidate with the capacity to win the March 18th gubernatorial elections, and the need for the opposition to prevent splitting its votes amongst several candidates, today we officially adopted Pastor Tonye Cole, Governorship Candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Rivers State as the consensus and unifying Candidate of the opposition. Upon his victory Tonye Cole will form a unity government comprising of the APC and other opposition parties in this alliance titled “Stronger Together for a United Rivers State”.
I hereby call on all my supporters to vote for Tonye Cole of the APC this Saturday.”
