Nigeria’s first lady, Aisha Buhari, has supported the call for the execution of Kano schoolteacher, Abdulmalik Tanko, who killed a 5-year-old pupil of his school.
Abdulmalik Tanko, the proprietor of Noble Kids Academy in Kawaji, Kano state, while being paraded on Friday, January 21, confessed to killing five-year-old Hanifa Abubakar with rat poison.
He had kidnapped the young girl in December 2021 and demanded a 6 million naira ransom from her family. He, however, killed and buried her in a shallow grave in the school, despite receiving part payment of the ransom over fear of being court.
In a video, serving rounds online, a popular Kano-based cleric, Malam Abdallah Gadon Kaya, asked that the self-confessed suspect be publicly executed.
“His (Tanko’s) life is not more than this girl’s life, the way he took her life, his life should be taken also and let it be done publicly so that another person wouldn’t repeat such.” The cleric said.
The first lady reposted the video on her Instagram page, and in her caption, noted that she supports the punishment the cleric prescribed for the late minor to get justice.
“We support the justice of Malam”, she wrote.
