Nigerian professional footballer Alex Iwobi has taken down almost all his Instagram posts after receiving heavy backlash from Nigerians over his performance at the recently concluded Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Recall that Nigeria lost to Côte d’Ivoire during the final match on Sunday, February 11, and the loss has sparked a wave of reactions on social media.
Some angry fans expressed their disappointment in Iwobi for his reported poor performance during the games, while others claimed that he has lost his form.
He was also called out for allegedly not training enough and instead living a lavish lifestyle and showing it off on social media.
A video circulating online captures a preview of his Instagram page, where a disgruntled fan pointed out that it is filled with pictures rather than clips of him sweating it out during training and on the pitch.
This further stirred criticisms and backlash from Nigerian football lovers.

Iwobi, who is clearly not oblivious to the criticisms, has now deleted almost all of his Instagram posts, leaving only one.
The 27-year-old footballer, who plays as a midfielder for Premier League club Fulham, also turned off the comment section of the only standing post.
