Lagos State Government has arraigned a boat driver identified as Happiness Elebiju over the death of 12 passengers aboard his boat in Ilashe waterfront community in July.
Elebiju was arraigned with a 10 count charge bordering on involuntary manslaughter caused by exceeding the capacity of his boat on Monday, August 24.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges before Justice Josephine Oyefeso of the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja and has been remanded at a correctional center.
The Director of Prosecution, Mrs Olayinka Adeyemi informed the court that the state was ready for trial and have two witnesses ready to testify against the defendant.
However, the defense counsel asked the court for time to prepare for the trial.
Justice Josephine Oyefeso adjourned the case till Thursday August 27 for the commencement of the trial.
