Tension mounted in Cross River State as civil servants staged a protest at the office of the Secretary to the State Government, Anthony Owan Enoh, over the non-payment of their salaries.
The workers voiced their frustrations, expressing their disappointment that, as of February 16, they had not received their wages.
In a display of anger, the civil servants spoke on the effects of the delayed payments have on their families.
They revealed that the lack of income had hindered their ability to fulfill their obligations, including paying their children’s school fees and providing food for and basic needs for their households.
The protesters gathered in unity, demanding immediate action from the state government to address the issue and ensure the prompt disbursement of their salaries.
Their grievances reflect the financial strain faced by many civil servants who rely on their paychecks to sustain their livelihoods.
The state government has thus far remained silent on the matter, leaving the civil servants and their concerns unaddressed.
The absence of a response from the government has only intensified the frustration and created discontent among the protesting workers.
The situation has drawn attention to the pressing need for swift resolution, as the unpaid salaries not only impact the livelihoods of the civil servants, but the welfare of their families.
