Award winning actress, Dame Diana Rigg popular for her movie roles in James Bond, Avengers and Game of Thrones has died of cancer at the age of 82.
The English actress became popular in the 1960s when she starred in The Avengers as Emma Peel alongside Patrick Macnee. She also played Countess Teresa di Vicenzo, or Tracy Bond, James Bond’s first and only wife to date in the 1969 film “Her Majesty’s Secret Service”. She most recently played the role of Lady Olenna Tyrell in HBO’s Game of thrones.
Confirming her death, her talent agent, Lionel Larner, said she died “peacefully” on Thursday morning, adding that she had been “at home with her family in England who have asked for privacy at this difficult time”.
“She was a beautiful kind and generous human being that enhanced the lives of all that knew her as well as a great actress. She leaves a great void in my heart,” she said.
Her daughter, Rachael Stirling who is also an actress, said Rigg had been diagnosed with cancer in March, and had “spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession. I will miss her beyond words.”
The American Pay Television, HBO have taken to their twitter account pay tribute to Diana Rigg.
