Instagram influencer, Rukayat Adedamola Adewale, aka Adeherself was rearraigned in court on Wednesday, October 7 and the EFCC presented its first witness to testify against her.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, presented one Samuel Orie, a compliance officer with Guaranty Trust Bank Plc as its first prosecution witness.
Adeherself was re-arraigned before Justice Sherifat Solebo at the Lagos State High Court sitting in Ikeja.
In a statement by the law enforcement agency,
“Adewale, 20, is being prosecuted on a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy to obtain by false pretence, attempt to obtain by false pretence and retention of proceeds of a criminal conduct.”
The popular Instagram socialite pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
The prosecution counsel, Samuel Daji presented his first witness, Orie who told the court that her statement of account and the account opening package has been released by the Bank.
Samuel Daji presented the documents before the court as evidence against Adeherself.
The case has however been adjourned till October 26, 2020.
Recall that Adeherself was arrested alongside four others by the EFCC, on the 16th of June, for internet fraud.
On Wednesday, July 15th, she was granted N500,000 bail by an Ikeja Special Offences Court in which she was ordered to provide two sureties with reliable means of income which would be verified by the court.
The influencer, who had been in the custody of the EFCC following her arraignment in court on July 7, is facing a charge of possession of a fraudulent document.
According to EFCC counsel, Samuel Daji, the defendant was arrested following intelligence received by the EFCC on the activities of some young men allegedly involved in internet fraud in the Lekki axis of Lagos.
