A 25-year-old electrician, Akonede Adekunle has been detained and accused of assaulting Miss Endurance Abah, his girlfriend because she cheated on him.
On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, he was charged and appeared before an Upper Area Court in New Karu, Nasarawa State.
Adekunle, a resident of One Man Village in Nasarawa, was accused of employing criminal force, assault, causing great bodily harm, and intimidation on four separate occasions.
However, the defendant entered a not guilty plea to the accusations.
Inspector Christian Michael, a police prosecutor, said in court that the defendant hurt Ms. Abah, the victim.
He stated that the incident had been reported on May 4 to the New Nyanya police station in New Karu.
“The complainant, who was in a romantic relationship with the defendant, alleged that on the same date, the defendant accused her of cheating on him.
This resulted in a serious argument that the defendant beat her up and inflicted injury on her forehead.
The defendant, however, went further to threaten the complainant, saying that he would use cutlass and cut down anybody that intervened,” Michael told the court.
According to the prosecutor, Sections 265 and 264 of the Penal Code were violated.
However, the defendant was given bail in the amount of N100,000 and one surety in the same amount by sitting judge Evelyn Otusha.
The surety, according to her, must be at least a level three government official who lives under the jurisdiction of the court.
The case was postponed until May 31 by Otusah.
