Big Brother Naija: Lockdown housemate, Ozoemena Joseph Chukwu has said the ban the Federal Government and Inspector General of Police imposed on the infamous sect of the Nigeria n Police Force, SARS (Special Anti Robbery Squad) isn’t going to change anything.
Over the weekend, Nigerians had stormed social media to air their displeasure over the incessant robbery, killing, extortion and harassment by officials of the SARS in places in the West, East and Southern side of the country.
Celebrities like Davido, Wizkid, Banky W, P-Square and a few others also lent their voices as they beckoned on the government to put a stop to the operation of SARS before they things get way out of hand.
In light of the protests on social media, the FG and IGP on Sunday afternoon announced the ban of operations by officials of SARS. In a statement released on social media, it was said,
“The inspector-general of police, IGP M.A Adamu, NPM, mni has banned the personnel of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) and other Tactical Squads of the Force including the Special Tactical Squad (STS), Intelligence Response Team (IRT), Anti-Cultism Squad and other Tactical Squads operating at the Federal, Zonal and Command levels, from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties – stop and search duties, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks, traffic checks, etc – with immediate effect,”
This caused for subtle rejoicing by a lot of Nigerians who had high hopes that the ban will curb the nefarious operations of the said NPF personnel. However, Big Brother Naija: Lockdown housemate, Ozo doesn’t seem to think the ban will do much as he feels the whole Nigerian Police Force is in need of a total reform.
According to him, the FG and IGP might have banned “SARS” as a unit but the people that were in it will just be given a different division and then it will be back to square-one. He wrote on his page,
SARS is not just a set of people .
Sars is a mindset , it’s an emotion dressed up by men in a police uniform. 80percent of the police men share this emotion
ENDING Sars doesn’t stop this mind set. All they have to do is give them another patrol name.. the emoton continuesThe whole police force needs a reform.
