Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has heavily criticized the National leader of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu for refusing to stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi at an event.
This occurred at the coronation of the Oniru of Iruland in Lagos state on Sunday, September 6, 2020.
The Ooni of Ife arrived at the event and was walking to his seat when he stopped by to greet Tinubu. Tinubu failed to stand up in respect to greet the traditional ruler.
Some Nigerians have frowned at him as it is expected that he should have accorded the monarch some respect by standing up. Some people blamed the traditional ruler for stopping to greet Tinubu.
Femi Fani-Kayode has publicly criticised the former Governor of Lagos on Twitter for his actions. He stated that it is an insult to every indigene of Ife and descendants of Odua.
His tweet reads,
“That the Asiwaju of Bourdillon refused to stand up to greet the Ooni of Ife speaks volumes. This was not only deeply insulting to every Ife & indeed son & daughter of Odua but it is also a crying shame. Would a northern pol. leader refuse to stand up for his traditional ruler?”
