A Russian Premier League football match took a chaotic turn as players, rather than kick the football, chose to kick themselves during a dispute.
In most football matches when players have a dispute, there’s usually exchange of vulgar words, shoving and temper flares between the opposing teams and the referee usually settles the situation with his verdict; a yellow or red card for players who engaged in the dispute.
Well, there were more than the aforementioned elements in the Russian cup match between Zenit St. Petersburg and Spartak Moscow which happened on Sunday 27th of November, 2022 as the match plunged into quite disturbing chaos with punches, kicks and knees thrown on the pitch, and six red cards handed out by the referee.
Despite the unsavoury scenes, the game was able to resume for a decisive penalty shootout, with Zenit’s Brazilian goalkeeper Ivan the hero, saving two penalties to win the match.
