Police officers in Ogun state have detained four employees of a microfinance bank in the Ifo local government’s Abule Ijoko Lemode district in connection with the death of Vivian Omo, a 50-year-old widow of one of their debtors on May 10.
According to a statement from the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the issue began when bank employees went to the deceased’s house to request payment for a loan obtained from the bank by the deceased’s spouse but was told that the guy was not at home.
“Not satisfied with the woman’s explanation about the whereabout of her husband, the bank staffs decided to pack all the electronics in the house to their office the step that was resisted by the deceased. While the deceased was struggling with the Bank’s staffs, one of them pushed her and she fell down and was unconscious.
She was there and then rushed to hospital for medical attention, but was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty.”
Oyeyemi said the report was quickly lodged at Agbado divisional headquarters by the daughter of the deceased.
“Consequence upon which the DPO Agbado division, CSP Awoniyi Adekunle, quickly led his detectives to the scene where four staffs of the bank namely: Badmus Olalekan, Ajibade Oludare, Eniola Aduragbemi and Femi Oloko were arrested.”
He said that the body had been placed in the mortuary of the Ifo General Hospital for an autopsy.
Meanwhile, CP Olanrewaju Oladimeji, the police commissioner, has commanded the immediate transfer of the suspects to the state’s Criminal inquiry Department’s Homicide branch for additional inquiry.
As anybody discovered engaging in such behavior would be detained and prosecuted, he also advised lending firms to refrain from using the law against their debtors.
