The Federal Road Safety Corp, FRSC, has concluded the retraining of over 2,000 drivers of a leading road transport Peace Mass Transit, PMT, at its Academy, Udi, Enugu State.
The one month exercise witnessed the issuance of re-certification certificates to the drivers ahead of the ember months.
FRSC also warned motorists, especially commercial drivers, that it will enforce the installation of Speed Limiters and quality tyres as a safety measure to reduce road crashes during the festive period.
In the same vein, FRSC Corp Marshal, Boboye Oyeyemi, also at the FRSC Academy Udi,Enugu, apologized to the management of leading road transport company, Peace Management, PMT, over a misleading report credited to the Corp which inflated the number of casualties involved in PMT accidents last June.
While addressing over 2,000 drivers of PMT who passed out from the one month re-certification training exercise embarked upon by the management at FRSC Academy, Oyeyemi said,
“as we are entering the ember months where we usually experience increase in traffic, we will be ruthless in enforcements.
“This enforcement is specially on the area of Speed Limiters and quality tyres. We will impound any vehicle especially commercial ones found operating under these conditions.
Studies have shown that sixty-five percent of road crashes are caused by commercial vehicles. There will be zero tolerance on enforcement to reduce the rate of accidents on the nations roads.
“I want to seize this opportunity to apologize to the management of PMT on the misleading report which emanated from us,indicating that 44 passengers died in an auto crash involving PMT vehicles last June. The publication is highly regretted and I have queried the officers involved in the inflation of the figures.
“I equally ordered a rejoinder and as a responsible organisation, we accept our mistake where it has been proven”.
