FUTO final year student

Tragedy struck, yesterday, at the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, Imo State, as a final year student drowned while swimming.

The Deceased identified as Kester Gabriel, a 500 level Material and Metallurgical Engineering student, who returned to school, on Sunday, after his Industrial Training, died inside the Otammiri river in Ihiagwa.

His body has since been recovered. May his soul rest in peace

    And decided to go to the lodge then we saw a very narrow road with bushes siding it. .. I asked the two boys(Kester & Dante), where it led to…
    They said it’s Otammiri… I wanted to check it out… We three decided to go down there… We got there and saw a man fishing at the other side of the river… I asked em if we should ask this man bout the river.. Kester said i shouldn’t, he has swam the river before and was telling us stories of how a very young boy went to the deep part and came back… And he also did the same… By then, we were all in the water and *kester* was moving towards the deep part we followed him and we could feel the base of the river. Then all of a sudden the sand under desolved and took all of us inside… It drew *Kester* down and fast.. Then it drew me too… *Dante* was able to hold the bush so it tried and wasn’t able to.. It was me and *kester* .. I tried resisting but it wasn’t going to let go… I went above the water and tried diving wasn’t moving… It drew me back again.. i was struggling… i was able to move towards *Dante* at this time i was weak, the next time I’ll go in, i won’t make it out… Begged *Dante* for help and the water was coming with force from below.. Just as i grabbed Dante’s hand, it got me again… I and Dante dragged me towards the bush… I held it.. But it was still pulling me… I managed to leave the water… After some minutes, *Kester* came above and the water created a wave in form of a storm.. This time he was gone… We never saw him again… We called the man we saw and he did nothing.

    That’s my worst day… Ion know what would have become of me.
    It’s so bad, i lost a friend that day
