In a horrifying incident, gunmen suspected to be robbers have reportedly raped four female students at the Tai Solarin University of Education (TASUED) in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at TASUED’s hostels located in the Abapawa area, just off the campus.
Upon receiving the distressing news, the Deputy Governor of Ogun State, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, and the Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof Abayomi Arigbabu, swiftly rushed to the university to assess the situation.
They later visited the victims, who were subsequently transferred to the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH) in Sagamu for medical attention.
Expressing her dismay, Mrs Salako-Oyedele described the incident as “distressing and brutal.”
In a statement shared on her verified Facebook page, she reiterated the commitment of the Ogun State Government to ensuring the safety and well-being of its citizens, particularly students.
Following the visit to the victims, a meeting was held with the management and students of TASUED, where steps were discussed to enhance security measures and create a safe environment on campus and in the surrounding community.
The Commissioner of Police assured that no stone would be left unturned in apprehending the perpetrators and ensuring that justice is served.
The incident has sparked outrage and deep concern among the public.
