Nigerian noble laureate Wole Soyinka says he will destroy his green card and leave the United States if it so happens that Donald Trump wins the presidential election.

According to a report by The Guardian, Soyinka, a scholar-in-residence at New York University’s Institute of American Affairs, disclosed the plan in a speech to Oxford students.

He was quoted as saying:

“If in the unlikely event he does win, the first thing he’ll do is to say (that) all green-card holders must reapply to come back into the US. Well, I’m not waiting for that.

“The moment they announce his victory, I will cut my green card myself and start packing up.”

The Nobel laureate also criticised Brexit, warning that there is a rise of “ultranationalism” and calling on young people to resist oppression.

His comments come less than three weeks after 70 Nobel laureates backed Democratic Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

    • Funny because you don’t know how hard nigerias work here in order to send money to their sick and well relatives in Nigeria. We do double job in order to meet up with uncountable phone calls we receive from nigeria. Eventhen as a scholarship student … I worked in the school library and was able to help those I helped in my own little way . We know our problem in nigeria. I worked for 2 years as a nurse before traveling. We the masses do all sorts in order to survive . People seal fake drugs to hospitals thereby increasing the rate of kidney and liver issues in Nigeria. We the youth has refused to use our talents since the government are not helping . We the youth wants to harvest without cultivating . Our parents suffered so much just to be what they are now but we want everything to be placed directly in our care .I came from an average nigerian home ,I never made my hair myself ,I never cooked for someone .. but as I came to the US as a student , I had to work in the school library and in the fitness center . I couldn’t afford $200 to braid my hair because thats like 80k then …. I had to readjust and went on youtube ti learn that and now I’m paid to braid people’s hair and I also cook for some *lazy* mother’s and get paid and then I made sure that my younger brother in unizik then got monthly pocket money from me . So saying we want us all to come back …hmmmmm is a dream that can never come to reality . We wear one jeans here while those we give money in Nigeria does ashebi all the time in Nigeria . They flaunt iPhones while we use just normal ones .
