American rapper, Ice Cube, has disclosed why his ‘Friday’ co-star, Chris Tucker, turned down $12 million to bring back his role in the sequel.
The 1995 comic movie was a massive hit and spawned two sequels: ‘Next Friday’ released in 2000 and ‘Friday After Next’ released in 2002. However, Tucker didn’t return to play his role ‘Smokey’ in the subsequent films.
According to Ice Cube, who co-produced and acted in the movies, Tucker turned down the role for “religious reasons”.
He made this revelation in response to a Twitter user who claimed Tucker quit over money reasons.
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday December 29, he tweeted,
“We were ready to pay Chris Tucker $10-12m to do Next Friday but he turned us down for religious reasons. He didn’t want to cuss or smoke weed on camera anymore.”
Tucker also disclosed other reasons for his decisions not to return to Friday saying, “I never thought about doing sequels. I always wanted to do a good job and keep moving to the next movie.”
He however stated that he would consider coming back in the rumored fourth-sequel of ‘Friday’ if they come to him with a great script and a great idea.
