A lady who identifies as @iteoluwaki1shi has admonished Nigerians against regarding their mother as ‘Memi’,’Moymi’, ‘Meymi’ instead of the proper pronunciation of mum.
In the viral clip, the lady questioned the reason for regarding mothers in the local dialect instead of opting for the proper pronunciation of mother.
She reiterated that the word “Mother, Mum, Mummy” isn’t difficult to pronounce and when using the word to regard one’s mother, the local dialect is unpleasant to the ears.
In her words,
“In this age and time, you still call your mother, “Memi”,”Moymi”. How does it sound to you?”
She exclaimed that regarding your mother with the local dialect is quite awful in the modern age, hence, people should learn the right pronunciation rather than displaying a local behaviour.
Internet users suggest that everyone is free to regard their mother in whatever accent they deem fit, whilst the lady shouldn’t trivialize the African culture over the Western culture.
