Young keke rider, Auwalu Salisu, who gained popularity for returning a passenger’s N15 million, has been granted a scholarship worth N250 million, covering education up to the PhD level.
In 2023, a businessman from Chad forgot N15 million in cash in the tricycle of the 23-year-old commercial tricyclist.
In exchange for returning the money, Auwalu said that the Chadian businessman had given him N400,000 and assured him that he would train him from Senior Secondary 1 (SS1) to high school graduation.
He disclosed that his parents’ inability to continue covering his tuition payments caused him to leave school in SS2.
In response to the young man’s act of integrity, Auwalu was given a scholarship to study for a PhD at Baze University in Abuja by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, and Datti.
Speaking on Tuesday at the Leadership Awards and Conference in Abuja, Obi stated that his tuition, living expenses, and food are all covered by the scholarship.
He said; “Forthwith, I have consulted with my younger brother (Datti)and I know there will be other things coming from the big men who are here,” Obi said at the event where he bagged the Politician of the Year gong.
But for us, for now, your education, tuition accommodation, and feeding will be taken care of by Baze University till you graduate.”
In addition, Awwalu was given a N250 million scholarship by Niger State Governor Mohammed Umar Bago in recognition of his acts of integrity and to inspire other young Nigerians to emulate them.
Bago claims that the Niger State government, APC Governors Forum, President Bola Tinubu, his ministers, and the keke rider will all award the rider with N50 million scholarships. The governor continued by saying he would identify one of the Niger State road projects he was working on.
