In a new development, the Lagos State Government has ordered the indefinite shutdown of Dowen College, Lekki, pending investigations into the death of a 12-year-old student, Sylvester Oromoni Jnr.
Following clamours of justice by netizens and celebrities, the state government has finally ordered that the secondary school in Lekki, where a 12-year-old child, Sylvester was allegedly tortured for allegedly refusing to join a cult, be indefinitely shut down so as to properly carry out investigations.
Over the last few hours, the news of Sylvester’s tragic death after being unable to survive the pain that came with allegedly being tortured by some schoolmates, have circulated the web space with people shocked with the report.
A statement signed by the Assistant Director, Public Affairs, of the Lagos State Ministry of Education, Ganiu Lawal reads,
“The Lagos State Government has ordered the indefinite closure of Dowen College, Lekki, pending the outcome of an investigation into the death of Sylvester Oromoni Jnr, a student of the school.
“Commissioner for Education Mrs. Folasade Adefisayo announced the closure after a meeting with the School Management and Staff.
“The Commissioner called for calm, saying no effort will be spared in getting to the root of the incident.”
