The hospital where a 28-year-old lady identified as Vivian died during childbirth has been shut down by the Lagos State Government.
According to a statement released by the executive Secretary of the Health Facility Monitoring and Accreditation Agency (HEFAMAA), Abiola Idowu, preliminary investigation showed that Medville Global Health Center located at Ago Palace way in Okota, Lagos state, is not registered with the agency and was short-staffed.
The closure comes barely two days after a bereaved man, Chibuike Nwachukwu, took to social media to call out the hospital after his wife Vivian died during childbirth due to their alleged incompetence.
The grieving husband had said the hospital induced his wife to speed up her labour but she still didn’t deliver the child after 10 hours. He said a procedure was carried out on her from which she died, while the baby was saved. Read here
The chairman of HEFAMAA board, Solanke Koya, has issued a directive that a full-scale investigation be conducted to discover the circumstances taht led to her death.
The agency said it took the crucial decision to shut down the hospital “in furtherance of public protection pending the final outcome of the ongoing investigations.”
