Grammy award-winning Nigerian singer and songwriter, Temilade Openiyi, professionally known as Tems, has described her life as a “testimony.”
Tems made this statement while delivering a prologue at the 2023 Essence Festival on July 2nd in New Orleans, USA.
She recounted how she started from Lagos and has now achieved global recognition within a short period of time.
“You know, my life is a testimony. I guess, for those who don’t understand, I’m from Lagos, Nigeria,” Tems said amidst cheers.
In other news, Tems has set tongues wagging on social media over the way she hugged her colleague Wizkid at a recent concert
The Afrobeat sensations, who are best known for their hit song ‘Essence’, performed together at the much-anticipated ‘Essence Fest’ on Sunday night, July 2.
After their energetic performance, Wizkid took a moment to express his gratitude and give a speech dedicated to Tems, who is 28 years old.
During this time, what caught people’s attention was the way Tems held tightly onto Wizkid and rubbed his arms affectionately before giving him a warm embrace. All the while, Wizkid didn’t reciprocate the hug and simply continued speaking.
This singular incident has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many calling out Tems for inappropriately touching Wizkid instead of respecting his boundaries. Watch video here.
