Nigerian comedian and skitmaker, Bukunmi Adeaga-Ilori, popularly known as Kiekie, has revealed that she shares the financial responsibility of rent and other household bills with her husband.
Kiekie made this revelation during a recent interview with media personality Toke Makinwa. She explained that she wouldn’t feel comfortable living in a house without contributing towards the payment of rent.
The mother of one added that sharing the financial burden of rent would allow equal ownership of the property, so that in the event of a conflict, they would share everything equally
However, Toke stated that she doesn’t buy into the idea of sharing the payment of rent with a man. In response, Kiekie clarified that it’s fine for a woman not to contribute if she doesn’t have the means, but she believes that if a woman can afford it, she can share the financial burden.
Her words,
“On my birthday fly me to Dubai, fly me to Barcelona, buy me Fendi bags, that’s beautiful. But that I won’t pay rent won’t be possible. So that when we want to fight, you carry chair, I’ll carry television, we will share everything equal. You can’t tell me get out of my house, nothing like get out of my house. We are living together”
Speaking further, Kiekie asserted that sharing the financial responsibility would make a man respect his wife.
“I tell women this. How would you be living in a house and you are not paying rent? To me, it doesn’t make sense”
