A 22-year-old man, identified as Obinna Ugochukwu, has been arrested by the Imo State Police command for allegedly stabbing his friend to death.
According to the spokesperson of the state police command, SP Okoye, Ugochukwu was arrested following a case of murder that was reported at the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department (SCIID).
Parading the suspect before newsmen, Okoye revealed that Command’s Forensic Experts conducted an analysis that led to the arrest of the suspect, who hails from Ikeduru LGA of Imo State.
Okoye said in the course of the investigation, the suspect confessed to stabbing his friend Nwachukwu Stanley ‘m, who hails from Umuoma in Ikeduru L.G.A. of Imo State, repeatedly with a sharp knife on the upper part of his body when asleep over a misunderstanding that he failed to give him his cut of 3000 dollars they fraudulently gained in a cyber-crime deal.
The police spokesperson further revealed that the corpse of the victim has been deposited in the morgue, while the suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
In other news, three suspected kidnappers have been reportedly struck dead by lightning in Oro Ago, an agrarian community in Ifelodun local government area of Kwara State.
The Nigerian Tribune reports that the incident, which occurred three days ago, is believed to be linked to the efforts of a local vigilance group in the Igbomina Kwara axis, focused on addressing security challenges in the area.
It was gathered that the victims of the lightning strike were suspected members of an eight-man kidnapping gang that reportedly operated in Iwo, Osun State, about two weeks ago.
Speaking on the incident, the state police Commissioner, CP Ebunoluwarotimi Adelesi, noted that the command has initiated an investigation into the incident.
The CP added that the veracity of the incident would be determined after a thorough investigation had been conducted.
