St. Luke’s Parish Catholic Church, Abuja, recently held a cultural mass, and this has stirred mixed reactions from Christians on social media.
During the event, young men who followed the priests to the altar were dressed in white singlets with a wrapper tied around their waists. The ladies also tied wrappers around their waists and chests and had some beads on their hands, legs, and neck.
In photos from the event that surfaced online, some of the parishioners who participated in the mass are seen carrying calabashes and having on their bodies white chalk dots, typical of “herbalists” in Nollywood movies.
However, while some Nigerians applauded the church for celebrating the African culture even in the Christian faith, many others berated the parish.
Expressing their displeasure some Christians on Twitter opined that it’s unacceptable to mix African culture with Christianity.
