A Nigerian doctor calls people who only mourn the passing of others, but never celebrate them when they were alive “Witches”.
The doctor, Obianma Onya criticized such behaviour, calling it malicious in nature, emphasizing that people who do such hypocrites.
He urged people to let go of old traditions and instead learn to celebrate people while they are still alive and well.
His post read;
“I need to call out a crazy tradition in our clime where we ignore one another (don’t acknowledge accomplishments, needs, requests) while we’re alive but once someone’s obituary is announced, we gather like WITCHES to “mourn” or (jubilate). We even take selfies while smiling during the funeral and demand for food and drinks,” she wrote on Friday.
This should stop. I call it the highest level of hypocrisy and wickedness ever.
Your relationship with the deceased while alive should be directly proportional to your show of despair when the person is no more. If I never celebrated you, I won’t mourn you. Moreover, funerals are supposed to be solemn events and not some jamboree.”
