The Nigerian music icon Onyeka Onwenu has finally been laid to rest at a mausoleum in Ikoyi, Lagos State. The late veteran singer sadly passed away on July 30, 2024, at the age of 72.

Her death was a result of injuries sustained while attending a function honoring Emzor Pharmaceuticals’ Managing Director, Dr. Stella Okoli. Unfortunately, even though she was immediately rushed to Reddington Hospital in Ikeja, she was unable to pull through.

Onyeka Onwenu was a decorated singer, journalist, and icon who was a mentor to many, both in the entertainment industry and to Nigerians nationwide. Her passing significantly impacted many, with even the president of the country mourning the loss.

After a period of mourning, the late veteran singer was finally given a final farewell by loved ones, friends, and colleagues with a touching funeral service at The Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, Lagos. She was then laid to rest at a private burial ceremony at a mausoleum in Ikoyi, Lagos State.

The ceremony drew notable people like former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi and Abia State Governor Alex Otti, who all came to pay their final respects. Many Nigerians have expressed their sorrows at losing such a prominent figure bidding her their last goodbyes.
