Nigerian singer, Peter Okoye has been showered encomium by social media users as Nigerians compare him to Prince Harry, who has been standing up for his wife, Megan Markle, in her clash with the British royal family.
In a bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey which was aired on Sunday, March 7, the Duchess of Sussex made shocking allegations against the royal family.
Megan revealed that the royal family made racial comments about their son, Archie, before he was born. She also said her life as a member of the British royal family was an emotional battle that she contemplated suicide.
The former actress and Prince Harry tied the knot in May 2018, and she has reportedly received severe backlash from British media following reports that she was at odds with the royal family.
Despite the attacks, Prince Harry has consistently been by her side and showed her immense support. They both moved out of the palace and relocated to Canada when they couldn’t take the attacks any longer. They later moved to the U.S.
Peter Okoye came into the picture after a Nigerian lady took to Twitter to praise Harry for standing by Meghan. She added that an Igbo man can never do such a thing.
She tweeted,
“I just love the way Harry is standing firmly by Meghan. Can never be an Igbo man
Ndi “My mother said I can’t marry from Imo state”.
Some Nigerians disagreed with her claims and used Peter Okoye as a practical example. Recall that the former member of defunct PSquare group stood by his wife, Lola, who happened to be a Yoruba woman, during the clash he had with his brothers and other family members.
Netizens went on to commend and praise Peter for also putting his wife first, in the face of his family dispute. Some opined that his actions at the time were underrated because it was from an African man.
