Over a hundred young Nigerians stormed the Ukraine embassy in Abuja on Tuesday to volunteer to join Ukraine in the fight against Russian forces.
This comes following a recent call by the Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, pleading with people around the world to join Ukraine in the fight against Russia.
Guardian reports that a total of 115 Nigerian volunteers on Tuesday, March 1 put down their names in a register provided by the embassy.
The second Secretary, Ukraine Embassy, Bohdan Soltys, who confirmed the development said that no step had yet been taken to that effect.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria has said it is ready to sanction Russia in line with the United Nations’ resolution to “adopt and impose sanctions” on the country for invading Ukraine.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, who made this known while featuring on a Channels TV programme on Monday, emphasized that the Nigerian government does not condone Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
