The Ekiti state Gubernatorial elections held over the weekend and although a winner has been declared, there were viral reports that it was heavily marred by voter buyers/sellers.
Buying of votes was noticed across many polling units in the ongoing Saturday governorship election in Ekiti State on Saturday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondents, who monitored the election, reports that incidents of vote buying were recorded in many polling centres visited.
We also reported a viral video of two young girls showing off their earnings as also brandished their voter’s card after selling their votes.
Reacting to this, popular Nigerian Clergyman, Apostle Johnson Suleman took to his social media page to state that some Youths are not leaders of tomorrow but LOOTERS in training.
The cleric tweeted;
So in the just concluded Ekiti state election,some youths were selling their votes?..
I have always said it,not all youths are leaders of tomorrow,some are looters in training!.
The Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD, has revealed that its field observers documented 41 instances of vote buying and selling at polling units across six Local Government Areas (LGAs) during the governorship election in Ekiti state.
According to the CDD, the cases were recorded at Ado-Ekiti, Ijero, Ikole Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ise/Orun and Moba LGAs of Ekiti.
