Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has slashed the salaries of senior political appointees in his administration by 50 percent.
The Governor gave the announcement while addressing workers at a Workers’ Day event at the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Secretariat in Ibadan, the state capital.
He also confirmed that the state’s lawmakers also agreed to cut their salaries by 30 percent.
Makinde disclosed that his government is working hard to mitigate the shock of the pandemic on the state’s economy, and will also ensure that salaries would continue to be paid regularly by the 25th of every month.
In mid April. the governor offered to donate his blood for research on a possible cure for Coronavirus.
The governor tested positive for COVID-19 in March but recovered quickly after he said he took honey, Vitamin C, and blackseed oil to boost his immune system and fight the deadly virus.
He wrote on Twitter,
“We have been advocating for local solutions to the COVID-19 pandemic in Oyo State. So, as a COVID-19 survivor, I volunteered to donate my blood to be studied by our experts researching on the “Evaluation of Post Infection Protection Against SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19) in Nigeria.”
