A pedestrian bridge located in Alapere estate, Lagos state, has collapsed after being struck by a trailer, according to eyewitnesses and multiple sources.
The incident occurred late on Thursday, December 7, causing traffic disruption in the area.
Eyewitnesses reported that the fully loaded commercial bus was on the bridge when a trailer collided with it, resulting in the bridge collapsing.
Fortunately, there were no fatalities, but one person sustained injuries.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident, stating that a truck loaded with metal, which exceeded the height restriction, became lodged under the bridge, leading to its collapse.
The rubble and waste from the collapsed bridge has caused significant traffic congestion along the Ketu-Alapere axis towards Berger.
Authorities are currently working to address the situation, and alternative routes have been suggested.
Motorists traveling out of Lagos through the affected area are advised to use the Ikorodu Road as an alternative for the time being.
Videos of the collapsed bridge have circulated on social media, drawing attention to the incident.
Residents and motorists are urged to avoid the affected area until the situation is resolved, and are advised to stay informed about other alternative routes.
Investigations into the incident are underway, and further updates are expected to be provided by relevant authorities.
