The Delta State Police command has arrested one Meshack Sinuphro, who allegedly absconded with a Benz GLB 250 during a test drive in Abuja.
According to reports, the suspect disguised himself as a prospective buyer and escaped with the Benz while test-driving the vehicle owned by a car dealer named Mohammed Manga in Abuja last week.
However, the car, valued at N55 million, was recovered in Delta State on Tuesday after the police tracked it down. The suspect reportedly abandoned the vehicle in a bush.
Meshack Sinuphro, who was previously declared wanted, was arrested on Thursday in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
DSP Bright Edafe, spokesperson for the Delta State Police command, confirmed Meshack’s arrest in a statement on Thursday, July 6.
“On July 3, 2023, at approximately 5:00 PM, the police received a complaint from a car dealer in Abuja whose vehicle was stolen from his car stand by the suspect, who disguised himself as an intending buyer and absconded with the vehicle during a test drive on June 30, 2023, in Abuja.
“Armed with available intelligence, operatives of the CP-Decoy Squad stormed Ughelli town at about 1:15 AM on July 3, 2023, and recovered the said Mercedes Benz SUV, abandoned in a bush along Oteri road by Doctors Quarters, Ughelli North LGA. A serious manhunt for the suspect is ongoing,” Edafe had previously written on Twitter.
Providing an update on Thursday, he added, “The suspect, Meshack Sinuphro, who allegedly stole the Benz in Abuja while pretending to be a buyer, has been arrested by the Command Decoy squad today in Benin City. The suspect will be transferred to the FCT command soonest. Always report crimes to the police, and we will always deliver.”
