A shocking incident has unfolded in Delta State, as a policeman serving with the Enerhen Police Division in Uvwie Local Government Area is accused of attacking and beating a 60-year-old woman, Monica Anyamah, to the point of unconsciousness.
The victim is currently receiving medical treatment at an undisclosed hospital.
According to Alexandria, the victim’s daughter, the incident occurred on Saturday in Agbarho community.
The officer responsible for the alleged assault has been identified simply as Bobby. Reports suggest that Bobby detained her mother at the Agbarho Division in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
Alexandria revealed that her mother, who suffers from hypertension and diabetes, was denied access to her medication during her detention.
She further claimed that Bobby not only targeted her mother but also assaulted and injured her father.
The gravity of the situation became apparent when her mother began experiencing seizures after being struck on the head by the officer. Alexandria has passionately called for justice, appealing to Nigerians for support.
“I need justice for my mother dear Nigerians please,” she said.
The incident unfolded after her mother a primary school teacher and businesswoman, returned home from Effurun market, where she sells second-hand clothes, to discover that her house help, rejoice, had abruptly packed her belongings and fled.
In their quest to locate rejoice, her mother and father visited the residence of Wisdom, the agent who had arranged for the house help.
It was there that they encountered Bobby, who allegedly launched a brutal assault on her mother and injured her husband.
The Delta State Chairman of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR), Comrade A.P. Edariese, has condemned the incident, describing it as a case of brutalization. He has called on the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Wale Abass, and other relevant authorities to intervene and ensure justice is served.
While the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, has denied the report, labeling it as false, the Commissioner of Police is yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident.
The community anxiously awaits further developments in this distressing case, hoping for a swift resolution and the restoration of justice.
