An enraged crowd beat a yet-to-be-identified suspected armed robber to death after he attempted to rob a resident known only as Victor in Olugboso in the Agege area of Lagos State.
At midnight, the suspect reportedly entered Victor’s residence and used a toy pistol to try to steal his possessions.
Victor challenged him and got into a battle with him after noticing that the pistol was fake. In the process, the suspect reached into his pocket for a pair of scissors and stabbed Victor.
As the altercation awoke his neighbors, they overwhelmed the aggressor and saved Victor, who had already suffered major bodily damage.
An eyewitness told Punch,
“The incident happened around 1.30 am. The occupants in the building heard the sound of people struggling. They traced the sound to Victor’s room and tried to rescue him. By then, he was already stabbed in the neck, including his chest and some parts of his face. They had to quickly rush him to a nearby hospital.”
The suspected robber was attacked by other residents who arrived on the scene; he eventually passed away as a result of his injuries.
SP Benjamin Hundeyin, a spokesman for the Lagos Police Department, verified the occurrence. He said,
“The incident happened. A pair of scissors and a toy gun were found on the suspect. The corpse has been deposited in the morgue. The victim was taken to the hospital and he is responding to treatment. Investigation is ongoing.”
