On Thursday, July 14, a 28-year-old man Ndifreke Ibuotenang claimed he was arrested and brutalized by a group of policemen attached to Mkpat Enin police division, Akwa Ibom state.
Ibuotenang revealed that he was brutalized by the police while he was returning from his palm wine joint around 9pm, leaving his two eyes seriously injured.
He said he was released after the payment of N10, 000 bail. When contacted, the state Police Commissioner, Murtala Mani said the police had already commenced investigation into the case and all the policemen involved were in detention at the police headquarters in the state.
The police who are supposed to be the ones protecting innocent citizens are now their nightmares. After the brutal treatment melted out on him, they still extorted a whopping sun of #10,000 from him! What is the difference between the acts of these policemen and that of a common criminal that comes to rob? The earlier something serious is done about the police harassment and extortion, the better for us all.
