Nigerian Afrobeat singer, Oyinkansola Aderibigbe professionally known as Arya Starr won the “Best African Act” at the 2025 MOBO Awards held in Utilita Arena ​Newcastle in the United Kingdom on February 18.

The singer secured two prestigious awards at the annual British Music Award presentation honoring achievements in “music of black origin”.

At the 2025 MOBO Awards, Ayra Starr also received the esteemed “Best International Act” award. She triumphed over a competitive field of nominees, including fellow Nigerian artist Asake, as well as international stars Kendrick Lamar, Glorilla, Nicki Minaj, Tems, and Tyla.

In her acceptance speech, the 22-year-old overwhelmed by happiness, said,

“This is my first MOBO. And this is the first time I’m winning a MOBO Award.
Thank you so much to everybody who supported me. Thank you to my team—my amazing MOB-STARS.
My amazing brothers who make music with me; the producers in the studio, my studio partners in crime; my label—MAVINS record, Embryo, my mummy, and Rema”.

The singer’s admirers celebrate her international recognition after she triumphed over other foreign artists and represented the African music industry.

Many claimed that her attendance at the ceremony was the highlight of her recognition.
