Aminu Muhammad, a student of the Federal University of Dutse (FUD), who was arrested over a Twitter post where he criticized the First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has advised netizens to uses social media responsibly.
Aminu, a final-year student in the department of environmental management, was reportedly apprehended on November 18 by security operatives from the Nigerian Police Force and men from the Department of State Service over a tweet in which he claimed that the First Lady feeds fat on poor people’s money.
After spending days in custody, Muhammad, who was arraigned before Justice Yusuf Halilu of the Federal Capital Territory High Court at Maitama, has now regained his freedom after the first lady withdrew the defamation case against him.
Speaking in an interview with Channels TV following his release, the 24-year-old advised social media users to use the various platforms responsibly and not follow in his footsteps.
“Freedom of speech everybody has it, freedom after speech that is where the big problem is. We should use our social media platforms accordingly you have no idea where what you post where it will go. It can reach everywhere in the world and the problem that it will cost you, the people that are supporting you will not be there”, he said.
